2025-2029 Capital Improvement Plan
The meat is on pages 15-17. Total costs for the New Village Hall (for example) are spread over several different entries… go luck.
My summary:
$1 million on McKenna Park in 2026
$1 million for new facilities designs in 2025
$5.8 million in 2026 for a new facility? The new Village Hall is projected to be $18 million plus+ I understand the Board wants to add a few thousand square feet to the cold storage building at the golf course? Along with insulation etc. - basically a fully functional DPW building to be used during the new Village Hall construction. While I agree upgrades and changes may be needed, this is over the top, and I think a waste of money.
Pool Building Renovation - $75,000 design 2025/ $1 million in 2026. It has long been known that the pool building has ADA compliance issue, no $75k study needed. If we pursue this path and look to make a significant upgrade to the pool building, the entire building will have to be brought up to compliance. Perhaps we should have a resident focused committee to explore all options here and use what knowledge citizens already have.
$2 million in street projects in 2026. I suspect this is sewer and water. While I cannot say for certain, I am 99% certain this IS NOT necessary. The problem we have on Tallyho is the Village had the water pressure high enough so I could water my back yard from the street. This high pressure kept blowing out water pipes (a water hammer at the intersection of Highbury and Tallyho). A few years ago, I pointed this out and suggest we re-evaluate our DPW engineers if they can’t figure out a water hammer - a month or so later the water pressure was back to normal and we’ve had no problems since. Often street and sewer repairs are more about understanding what we have rather than making everything new.
