University Bay Drive Bike Bridge

The contract signed by our previous Village President states the Village is responsible for maintenance of the overpass and approaches (see the contract below, p2, s3, 5th bullet.) This goes into effect after ‘acceptance of the improvements’, which could be in a few years.

I believe the bridge was completed in the summer of 2023. The bridge has no expansion joints. This and possible construction/material issues are leading to the deck breaking apart over the piers. One can see in the picture below, with my faithful companion, epoxy has already been poured into previous cracks. I just walked up there yesterday and noticed new cracks had formed. This epoxy, in theory, will prevent water penetration and ‘glue’ the bridge deck back together.

If your driving buy, the cracks can be seen on the side of the deck. They appear as white stains weeping from the cracks over the piers (next pic).

Somebody is repairing this thing. I understand Strand was the Project Engineer.

While trying to find the details the Village administration seemed not be aware of this issue. I am NOT criticizing the Village Staff - they have always been very helpful and prompt. I am guessing they were not aware this was an issue.

For me - this would be a five alarm fire. Once the Village accepts this bridge, the cracks are our problem.
